Sailing: Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

Date published: 25 April 2019

The annual Spring Pursuit Race, where boats start in a timed sequence with the slowest first and sail for an hour, took place on Easter Sunday 21 April, at Hollingworth Lake.

The warm sunshine and pleasant breeze brought more boats than usual out to race.

Jasper Bramwell and Lauren Marsh set off in their Topper 4.2 dinghies. Jasper sailed well to hold the lead for much of the time, despite the wind varying in strength and direction.

Leading the pack behind was Nick Brook in a Solo who went on to win.

In a Scorpion, Chris Massey and Heather Marsh were runners up, followed by Les Bithell and Emma Turner in a Merlin Rocket.

With these quicker boats in the hands of senior sailors, Jasper was pushed back into a final 11th place.

Two normal points races followed.

It was certainly a day for the Solos with Nick and Martin Brennan holding the leading places on handicap.

Martin took the first one and Nick the second to secure the lead overall.

Chris Massey and Heather Marsh were third overall followed by Les Burns and Alice Morris in a GP14.
