Eden Bearshaw walks out as Dale's match day announcer

Date published: 29 August 2017

The saga of match day announcer at Rochdale Football Club took another twist on Saturday when Eden Bearshaw walked out before the derby game with Bury at the Crown Oil Arena.

In April, Mr Bearshaw was announced as Dale's new match day announcer, taking over from Dave Sweetmore, for the 2017/18 season.

However, just weeks later Mr Sweetmore had a change of heart and decided not to take up a new role in the Lake District. That subsequently led the club to rescind its appointment of Mr Bearshaw and invite Mr Sweetmore to continue in the role.

Facing heavy criticism, the club back-tracked and confirmed the appointment of Mr Bearshaw for the new season.

Now, after just two home games, Mr Bearshaw has quit.

It is understood that Mr Sweetmore has been approached and has accepted an invitation to once again become Dale's match day announcer.

Both Mr Bearshaw and Rochdale Football Club declined to comment.
