Boxing: Gold medal for Danyal Mahmood

Date published: 04 August 2017

Danyal Mahmood, from Queensway ABC, put on a boxing masterclass to bring home a gold medal from the East Midlands box cup last weekend.

In the first round of the final, Mahmood quickly established his jab and check hook, taking control of the early encounters to take the round.

Round two saw Mahmood pick up the pace and put his combinations together, controlling the pace of the round and finishing strong to secure another round.

In round three, he worked effectively looking to finish his opponent but ran out of time as the final bell went.

The referee congratulated Mahmood at the end of the bout and told him he "boxed fantastic".

It was a clear-cut fight and easy for the judges to score a unanimous decision and gold for Mahmood.

The competition attracted over 300 boxers and was held over three days at the Grantham Meres Leisure Centre.
