Rugby League: Hornets looking to clip the Eagle's wings

Date published: 02 June 2017

Rochdale Hornets face Sheffield Eagles in the Kingstone Press Championship on Sunday.

The Eagles have made the ground of Wakefield Trinity their temporary home for 2017 and Hornets will make the trip fresh from their triumph over rivals Oldham on Saturday.

Their opponents this weekend also recorded a win last week thanks to an improved second-half, with Sheffield surviving a late scare to see off Swinton Lions 30-24.

In the last meeting between the Hornets and the Eagles it was the visitors who came away from the Crown Oil Arena with the spoils, comfortably winning 42-18.

Hornets will be full of confidence this time out though after their well-deserved derby win over Oldham which ended their losing run, and will be hoping to stay within touching distance of their opponents after climbing to eighth.

In the five meetings of the sides since 2007 Sheffield have come out on top in each one, with Hornets failing to score in their last two away visits. Those were both at the Don Valley Stadium though, and with historic wins at Featherstone Rovers and Bradford Bulls already picked up this season, head coach Alan Kilshaw will be hoping for a similar outcome on Sunday.
