Heybrook champions of Rochdale Borough five-a-side tournament

Date published: 12 December 2016

Heybrook were crowned champions at the annual Rochdale Borough five-a-side tournament which was held at Falinge Park High School.

Six schools qualified for the finals; Heybrook, Healey, Shawclough, Spotland, All Saints and Meanwood.

The tournament was played in two groups with each game lasting a total of seven minutes.

The team with most points after these games would qualify for the final.

After a nervy first game, Heybrook turned on the style and qualified for the final conceding just one goal.

They faced Shawclough - a repeat of last year's final.

After a thrilling and thoroughly entertaining game, Heybrook were crowned champions for a fourth consecutive year.

Ajaz Hussain and Lewis Gregory, coaches of the team, said: "Champions four years in a row is an unbelievable achievement and it just goes to shows the consistency in the quality we are producing here at Heybrook.

"It was a very competitive tournament with some excellent football being played so to have won it makes us extremely proud of the boys."
