Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a pedestrian crossing - Redcross Street

Expected start and finish: Friday 25 October 2024 – Friday 7 February 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Redcross Street. This will start at its junction with St Mary's Gate and continue to a point 17 metres away in a northerly direction.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install traffic calming in Spotland

Expected start and finish: Monday 6 January 2025 – Monday 17 February 2025
Restriction and location:

  • Ashworth Street: temporary closure of the whole road.
  • Mitchell Street: temporary closure of the whole road.
  • Lower Sheriff Street: temporary closure of a section of this road. The closure will start at the junction with Clement Royds Street and end at the junction with Spotland Road.

Only one road will be closed at a time during these works.

Alternative route: Alternative routes for vehicles will be signed onsite.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install permanent one-way barriers and signs for one-way working.

Expected start and finish: Monday 6 January 2025 – Friday 14 February 2025 as and when required. Only one street will be worked on at a time.
Restriction and location:

  • Ashfield Road: temporary closure, from its junction with Boundary Street to a point 10 metres away in a westerly direction.
  • Kensington Street: temporary closure, from its junction with New Barn Lane to a point 10 metres away in an easterly direction.
  • Osbourne Street: temporary closure from its junction with New Barn Lane to a point 10 metres in a westerly direction.

Alternative route: The alternative routes for vehicles will be posted onsite.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a burst water main in Shawclough Road

Expected start and finish: Sunday 19 January 2025 – Sunday 9 February 2025
Restriction and location: Shawclough Road: a section has been closed. The closure starts at the junction with Shawclough Way and ends at a point 50 metres away.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Shawclough Road, Market Street, Whitworth Road and Bentley Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair an unsafe building beside the road - Kingsland Road

Expected start and finish: Friday 24 January 2025 – Friday 14 February 2025
Restriction and location: Kingsland Road: a section has been closed. The closure begins at the junction with Eskdale Avenue and ends at the junction with Bideford Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Clovelly Street, Abbott Street and Bideford Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair an electrical fault in the pavement of Whitehall Street

Expected start and finish: Friday 31 January 2025 – Friday 21 February 2025
Restriction and location: Whitehall Street: a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at the junction with Industry Road and end at a point 10 metres away in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: Industry Road, Duke Street and Denton Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a defective chamber in Healey Lane

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 4 February 2025 – Tuesday 25 February 2025
Restriction and location: Healey Lane: a section is temporarily closed. The closure begins at the junction with Whitworth Road and ends at a point 45 metres away in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: Healey Lane and Whitworth Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a defective manhole in Norden Way

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 4 February 2025 – Tuesday 25 February 2025
Restriction and location: Norden Way: a section is temporarily closed. The closure starts at the junction with Harewood Road and ends at a point 35 metres away in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: Norden Way, Edenfield Road and Wolstenholme Lane.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install pedestrian crossing facilities on St Mary's Gate

Expected start and finish

  • Westbound closure: 8pm–5am each night from Monday 24 February 2025 – Tuesday 4 March 2025
  • Eastbound closure: 8pm–5am each night from Wednesday 5 March 2025 – Monday 17 March 2025

Restriction and location:

  • St Mary's Gate (westbound): a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at the junction with John Street and end at the junction with Spotland Road.
  • St Mary's Gate (eastbound): a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at the junction with Spotland Road and end at the junction with Whitworth Road.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Whitworth Road, Howard Street, Sheriff Street and Spotland Road.

 


Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out bridge works - Boothroyden Road

Expected start and finish: Monday 12 August 2024 – Monday 11 August 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Boothroyden Road. This will start at a point 34 metres south of its junction with Boothroyden Close and continue for a distance of 27 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Middleton
Reason: Temporary closure of Taylor Street

Expected start and finish: Thursday 23 January 2025 – Sunday 11 May 2025
Restriction and location: Taylor Street: temporary closure of this road, from the junction with Albert Street to the northern end.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

 


Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out works to the road and pavement on Queen's Park Road

Expected start and finish: 8pm–7am each day from Monday 3 February 2025 – Friday 7 February 2025
Reason: To carry out works to the road and pavement on the bridge.
Restriction and location: Queen's Park Road: a section will be closed. The closure will start at the entrance to Queen's Park Car Park and end at the junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Bury and Rochdale Old Road (B6222), Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58) and Queens Park Road.

 


Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To fix a leaking water main in Harbour Lane

Expected start and finish: Friday, 17 January 2025 – Friday 7 February 2025
Restriction and location: Harbour Lane: a section will be closed. The closure will start at the junction with Ladybarn Lane and continue to a point 9 metres away in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a gas leak in Shore Road

Expected start and finish: 10.15am, Tuesday 21 January 2025 – 10.15am, Tuesday 11 February 2025
Restriction and location: Shore Road: a section is closed. The closure begins at a point 50 metres from the junction with Furness Avenue and runs to a point 20 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is signed on street.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking water main in Ribble Avenue

Expected start and finish: Friday 24 January 2025 – Friday 14 February 2025
Restriction and location: Ribble Avenue: a section has been closed. The closure begins at the junction with Hodder Avenue and ends at a point 10 metres away in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking service in the pavement on Cedar Lane

Expected start and finish: Sunday 2 February 2025 – Sunday 23 February 2025
Restriction and location: Cedar Lane: a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at the junction with Laburnum Lane and end at a point 94 metres away in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: Laburnum Lane, Sycamore Avenue and Cedar Lane.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To install a new electrical service connection track in Old Road

Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day between the following dates:

  • Thursday 6 February 2025 – Sunday 9 February 2025
  • Thursday 13 February 2025 – Sunday 16 February 2025

Restriction and location: Old Road: temporary one-way working will be introduced along a section of this road. This will start at a point 27 metres west of its junction with Smithy Bridge Road and continue to the junction with South View Terrace. Vehicles won't be allowed to travel in an easterly direction between these points. Westbound traffic won't be affected.
Alternative route: The alternative route for traffic will be Old Road, Callards Road, South View Road and Smithy Bridge Road.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To install a new electrical connection track in the road and pavement of Whitegate

Expected start and finish: 8am–6pm each day, on all the dates listed below:

  • Thursday 6 February 2025 – Sunday 9 February 2025
  • Thursday 13 February 2025 – Sunday 16 February 2025

Restriction and location: Whitegate: a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will start at the junction with Smithy Bridge Road and end at a point 21 metres away in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Smithy Bridge Road, Lightburn Avenue and Stopford Avenue.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To install a new water connection in the road and pavement of Princess Road

Expected start and finish: Monday 24 February 2025 – Wednesday 26 February 2025
Restriction and location: Princess Road: a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at a point 54 metres from the junction with Heatley Road and end at a point 28 metres away in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Rochdale Road, Willows Lane and Heatley Road.
