Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club compete at the Northwich Spring Head 2016

Date published: 11 April 2016

Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club (HLRC) competed in the Northwich Spring Head race. The three divisions were raced over 2,350m on the gently meandering River Weaver.

The first division was solely for over 100 single scullers. HLRC had five rowers competing. The competitors took full advantage of the width of the river, overtaking at every opportunity, weaving past each other to gain precious seconds. Paul Gooder competed in the Masters G category, coming third. Mark Phillips, J13 single, and his brother Paul Phillips, J15 single, both fought hard against strong opposition. Emily Carter put in a good performance in her women's J17 race. Leanna Daniels had an excellent win in the women's IM3 category.

The double sculls races took place in the second and third divisions. Lucy Lonergan and Amy Aspinall raced in the women's J16; Maggie Page and Poppy Fletcher in the women's J14; Penny Price and Jane Dickman in the women's novice and Jason Hardman and Mike Smith in the Masters D - all four crews fought hard in difficult races and put in very creditable performances. Lucy Lonergan and Leanna Daniels won in good style in the women's IM3 race. Nigel Price and Tim Booth also had an excellent win in the masters E category.

The J15 quad of Harry Heywood, Nathan Scheider, Nic Friend, Tom Bland and Olivia Smith (cox) were against strong competition and did themselves proud with a good performance.

The women's novice four – Penny Price, Jane Walker, Linsey Lonergan, Louise Bousfield and Leanna Daniels (cox) – had a good race for their first time together, winning their category well.

It was a very good day for the HLRC team with some strong performances and wins. Club captain, Ian John, said he was pleased to see the rewards for the "many hours of training and all the effort put in by the juniors and seniors alike".
