Hornet’s heroes to inspire next generation

Date published: 17 February 2016

Rochdale Hornets will go into this year’s cup campaigns inspired by heroes, as they wear a specially commissioned cup kit.

Hornets travel to Barrow this weekend (21 February) in the IPro Sport Cup before playing local community club Rochdale Mayfield the following weekend in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Third round and in each of these games the players will be wearing the Inspired by Heroes Cup Kit.

The shirt, which will feature all 13 Heroes of Hornets, as voted by fans in 2015, as well as members from the Heroes of Hornets hall of fame.

Wayne English, Paul Crook and John Cookson all feature on the kit, as do players from down the years, including Frank Myler, Malcolm Price, Norman Short and Dave Taylor.

The inaugural 2013 Heroes of Hornets Hall of famers, the 2014 inductees, including the four Hornets who lost their lives in World War One, are also given acknowledgment on the shirt.

Produced by Surridge Sports, the Inspired by Hornets Cup kit design is unique and as well as giving a nod to the past it has been designed to appeal to a different market to the traditional home and away kits that Hornets will wear throughout the league and play off campaigns.

Members will get a first glimpse of the shirt at Saturday's AGM and members meeting.
