Heywood parking plans given the thumbs up

Date published: 13 January 2011

A parking scheme for Heywood town centre has been given the thumps up.

A number of restrictions around Taylor Street, Fox Street and Hind Hill Street have been passed by the Heywood Township Committee.

The new plans will see ‘No waiting at any time’ restrictions on Emmott Close to eliminate indiscriminate parking and allow 24 hours access to car parks and dwellings.

Limited waiting restrictions between 8.00am and 6.00pm on Monday to Friday on Mary Street, Taylor Street and Fox Street have also been introduced to allow for a higher turnover of vehicles in the area.

A report presented to the Heywood Township Committee stated: "The current proposals on Emmott Close are as a result of concerns regarding obstruction on Emmott Close due to indiscriminate parking.

"The proposals for Mary Street, Taylor Street and Fox Street will ensure that local businesses and St Joseph's Church can be accessed more easily during weekday working hours, prevent vehicles from parking opposite limit waiting areas, as the road could not safely accommodate vehicles parking on both sides, and will ensure adequate visibility for vehicles exiting from the junctions."
