Students and staff from the Carpentry and Joinery Department at Hopwood Hall College gave up their time over the Easter break to help the Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home.
They got to work constructing a fabulous fort for the youngsters to play in.
The keen students also designed and constructed outdoor picnic tables, bird boxes and planters so that the children can grow their own herbs.
George Woodall the Curriculum Leader for Carpentry and Joinery said: “This is a wonderful experience for these students to give something back to the community; all involved had a great time.
“We would like to become more involved with these types of projects; it adds realism and relevance to the courses these students are on. I am immensely proud of all the students and staff who gave up their free time over the Easter Holidays to complete this project to the highest standard.
“Also, many thanks to Travis Perkins of Rochdale for supplying and delivering the timber, free of charge.”
The student group was led by Terrance Parsons, 17. He said: “It was a good 3 days of doing a project that will last for a very long time.”
Phil Chadwick the Course Tutor said: “He (Terrance) took the responsibility for organising the materials and also delegating tasks to the other students; it was a pleasure to watch; he led from the front and I believe he has a great future in the construction industry”.
