School children visit fire station
“Cooling off” was the order of the day earlier today (Tuesday 22 June 2010) when classes one and two from Holy Trinity CE Primary School paid a visit to Littleborough fire station.
The pupils were treated to a fire safety talk by Crew Manager Mick Cryer and Station Commander Craig Lord, which included the children being told about the importance of having fitted working smoke alarms in their homes and the need to plan an escape from their home in the event of a fire.
They were also informed of the many ways of contacting the fire service in safety once they are outside the house.
Later on the students were shown children’s fire safety films, but the highlight of their day was squirting the water from the fire engine, which they also enjoyed looking around.
Their teachers Mrs Parsons, and Mrs Gillett said: “The children have all enjoyed themselves and learned about the dangers of fire whilst having some fun”
