Simon Danczuk backs Save the Children campaign

Date published: 19 December 2015

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk has encouraged constituents to give the best possible welcome to child refugees arriving in the UK this Christmas.

Almost 2,000 children have arrived unaccompanied in the UK this year, many of them have fled conflict and persecution in Syria.

Backing a campaign by Save the Children, Mr Danczuk has called on the public to write a welcome message to these young refugees. The messages will then be printed in books which will be handed out to help children learn English and integrate in their new communities.

Mr Danczuk is among the 2,000 people who have already contributed a message.

He said: “Whatever your views on the conflict in Syria, we can all agree that these innocent young children deserve the best possible welcome to their new home.

“They have been through so much and I’m glad that the UK can help provide them with a safe home and a fresh start.”
