As part of health and wellbeing promotion and awareness, Deeplish Community Centre oganised a Health Awareness Day on Monday (14 December).

The event was supported by Big Life Group, Link4Life, Demesne Community Centre’s Breast Cancer Campaign Project, GM Fire & Rescue Services, Early Break, Healthy Weight Team, Oral Health and Dental Health Team, BME Health Matters and Ideal Therapy Clinic.

The seminar was organised to raise awareness and provide information and advice to local communities about healthy lifestyles and to give professional advice on issues affecting people’s health. There were lots of stalls and information for public and health checks for participants.

More than 100 people participated in this open day and was huge success. There were basic health checks conducted by Big Life health trainers and Link4Life, and referrals were made to other health professionals.

Big Life professionals delivered bilingual information and advice to participants on dental health, reducing blood cholesterol, information about coronary heart disease, the long term effects of diabetes, and detailed information as to what happens if health advice is ignored.

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said: “We are pleased to see so many people attending our health and wellbeing activities at the centre and taking active part in finding out more about healthier lifestyles and participating in physical activities to improve health and fitness.

“Regular health checks are very important at an early stage to manage healthier lifestyles and to keep in touch with GPs and health professionals.”
