North Pole charity challenge

Date published: 17 December 2015

Over 400 students and staff braved the rain yesterday to take part in a virtual journey from Hopwood Hall to the North Pole for charity.

This journey was 4,050km in total, which participants covered between themselves in 810 laps of 5km (or 1km laps of an accessible route).

The challenge was for them to get to the North Pole through either running or walking. The route took place around the attractive surroundings of the Middleton campus, site of the historic Hopwood Hall.

Aptly, several of the participants dressed as Santa for the North Pole Challenge.

The College asked for a £1 donation from all participants and offered well-needed hot drinks and mince pies at the end. Prizes were also awarded for the best Christmas fancy dress; the winners were the Corporate Services team in their nativity costumes, followed by the Early Years team as a Christmas tree and presents.

Caroline Street, Executive Director at the College who organised the event said: “The North Pole Challenge was a great opportunity for us to work together, get active and raise some money for our College charity, Grace’s Place.

"Well done to all of the students and staff involved, who showed lots of energy and determination. Together we raised £414 so far for the charity.”
