Art Students work with the Manchester School of Art

Students from Years 9, 10 and 11 have been busy involved in a project with the Manchester School of Art and the Manchester Royal Infirmary that is likely to lead to the creation of participatory art.

The pieces will explore the themes of identity, well being and British values and should see our students learn more about the developmental and creative process of producing participatory work in a professional context.

Students have visited the establishment and we welcomed students from the M.S.A. to our school this week and took them on a tour of our venue. Thanks go to Mr Lawlor, Ms Kowalksi and Mr Butt for all their help and input in this project to date.

Tracing Steps Theatre Company ‘Cyberbullying’ Theatre-in-Education Performance

8F3 Drama Class enjoyed a theatre-in-Education performance by Tracing Steps Theatre Company and Wardle Academy last week.

The piece explored the issue of Cyberbullying and the thirty minute performance was followed by a short workshop and a survey of feelings from the piece. Our students showed great interest in the creative piece and we thanked our guests for sharing the work with us. We hope to see more soon.

Many thanks to Mr Carroll and Tracing Steps Theatre Company for their kind words; they were very impressed with our students as attentive audience members.

C.A.L.L. Underground Project Homework Pieces

Year 7 students have produced some fantastic project homework pieces as part of the C.A.L.L. curriculum. Inspired by the theme of ‘Underground’, students have been tasked with producing pieces of extended writing and learning a range of written structures.

We have received some great original responses and we look forward to being able to reward our learners very soon. Students have produced some exciting models and 3D pieces. Please note that these can be collected from your C.A.L.L. teacher straight after the holidays.

Year 7 C.A.L.L. ‘What’s In A Word?’ Project

7C2 Call Group have been busy completing the ‘What’s In A Word? C.A.L.L. project in order to achieve an Arts Award Bronze qualification.

The students are looking at Science and English subject specific language and using such words as a starting point for various creative pieces of writing.

Some very impressive pieces of work have been created to date and we look forward to letting students share their pieces as part of a mini exhibition in January.

Over the holidays, students will be working independently to build their portfolios. We have been incredibly impressed so far; well done! For more details about this project or about the Arts Award qualification, please contact Mr De Courcey.
