Chaplaincy News:

Nadine & Shawn, 2 of our Pupil Chaplains from Year 10, joined pupils from over 140 schools in the Diocese for a special Mass at the cathedral on Tuesday 8 December to mark the beginning of the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

It was also the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the first anniversary of Bishop John being installed as Bishop of our Diocese of Salford, so it was a very joyful celebration.

Nadine and Shawn were honoured to be invited to read the Prayers of Intercession during the Mass - we were very proud of them and many of the congregation came to congratulate them afterwards.

Pope Francis has declared that there will be a Holy Jubilee Year of Mercy from 8 December this year to 20 November 2016.

He wants this to be a special time when we show our faith to others by the things we do and say.

By celebrating this year, we can grow in our understanding of God’s love and bring the message of God’s mercy to others.

Throughout this year, a special Holy Door is being passed from school to school within Salford Diocese, including St Cuthbert’s, so we too can experience our own conversion.

PE News

A huge well done to A. Towers(yr 8), E. Bullock (yr8), S. Turner (yr 7) and I. Marshall (yr7) who competed in the North West Trampoline Championships on Sunday.

The girls completed two routines and finished them all with great scores from the judges. The girls competed against 130 other girls in their category and have been working really hard during practice sessions after school.

All of their hard work and practice paid off as their team came in the top half of the competition. Well done!

'Jack and the Beanstalk'

Pupils in 'Jack and the Beanstalk' have been extremely busy this week. They were in school on Sunday for the dress rehearsal 12-6pm. Pupils also performed for local primary schools. Pupils from St John's, St Patrick's, St Vincent's and Holy Family enjoyed a fabulous morning watching the production.

St Cuthbert's pupils loved seeing the audience reaction to their jokes and antics. Lots of the audience joined in with the cheering, booing and dancing. There was a lovely atmosphere which put our performers in confident mood for their evening performances.
