North West Convention for young people

Date published: 08 December 2015

Multicultural Arts and Media Centre (MAMC), as part of their NHS Youth HELP programme, facilitated the North West Convention organised by the British Youth Council, Youth Focus and North West Regional Youth Unit on Saturday 5 December at AJ Bells Salford Stadium, Eccles.

The workshops included young people and decision makers getting together to explore how Employment, Education and Training is affected by The Living Wage, Transport, Mental Health, Racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.

A spokesman for the MAMC said: “It was good to hear young people’s perspective on the issues and particularly the stigma around Islamaphobia.

“They all felt a greater need of education and integration of faiths within schools to help each other to understand at a young age and for faith organisations to work together to create one society”.

The NHS Youth Forum delivered a presentation on exploring issues of young people relating to health matters and what they could say direct to NHS bosses.

Gavin Rushworth said: “It’s great to be part of the NHS Youth Forum through MAMC and feel that I am making a good contribution to help young people to engage in discussion about their health and wellbeing needs.”
