The First Rochdale Scout Group has won a 'Silver Welly Award' for a film about flooding.

Joanne Griffin, First Rochdale Scout Group said: “The film is based around our involvement in the Defra/National Pathfinder Scheme.

“Originally we ran a few activities at the Scout Hut with Groundwork and The National Flood Forum to make children more aware of the dangers and effects of flooding.

Rochdale Online ran a story last year about us becoming 'River Stewards'

“Following on from this, we, along with other Scout Groups from around the District, attended a multi-agency Flood Awareness Day at Ashworth Valley Scout Campsite and have since had an evening of river based activities at Hollingworth Lake with Nature Ed.

“More recently we have visited the 'Revealing the Roch' office.

“We put the film together from photographs taken during the project and the children narrated.

"The film was then submitted into the Defra/National Flood Forum video competition along with films made by participants of the Pathfinder project around the country, including another film from Rochdale made by 'Faiths4Change'.

“We are the proud winners of the 'Silver Welly Award'."

The winners of the video competition were announced at the Defra/National Flood Forum Conference in London on 2 December.

The award was presented at the Beaver Scout meeting at the First Rochdale Scout Hut on Friday (3 December) evening.
