A Christmas tree for Newhey

The Christmas tree at Cotton Tree Corner, Newhey
Following a concerted campaign by local residents and councillors Newhey has finally got its Christmas tree.
People in Newhey had been left without their annual Christmas tree after the council said it was unable to erect the tree because of the installation of a new junction at Huddersfield Road.
A council spokesman previously said: “The site is now impractical for a tree and I would suggest that if a tree is required for next year a new site is found.”

Councillor Allen Brett said: “Duncan Hannant and I along with Councillor Butterworth took action so the tree is up.”
Councillor Andy Kelly said: “It seems that common sense has prevailed and just goes to show how much pride the people of Newhey have in their village. All hail people power.”
