Christmas Fayre

What a wonderful way to start the festive programme with the Christmas Fayre which was held in `The Street` area between ourselves and Oulder Hill school. Numerous stalls, raffles and refreshments raised over £1000 which is a fantastic effort. A huge thanks to parents / carers for your contributions and to staff and students for making it such a good event.

Parent Governor opportunity

There is an opportunity for parents / carers to self - nominate to become a governor of Redwood School in the spring term and utilizing your skills as parents / carers in supporting the next stage of developments at Redwood School. We are progressing very well following the inspection report last year and we are encouraging parents / carers to become actively involved in the next stage of development for the school. These are exciting times for the school and the letter sent home today, will hopefully provide you with the opportunity to seek more information on how you could be a member of the governors team. I hope to hear from one or two parents / carers in the near future. Thanking you in advance for your support.

Coffee morning / Parent workshop

Thank you for those parents and carers who attended a combined workshop and coffee morning today (Friday 4 December) and as a result had the opportunity to make a Christmas card with their son / daughter. A wonderful way to spend some time in school.

Annual Reviews / EHC Plans: Preparing our Youngsters for Adulthood

The feedback we are receiving from parents and carers at the recent Annual Review and EHC plans meetings has been very positive and your input into the target setting aspect has been vital. Thank you for your support during these important planning meetings as we continue to implement our academic and life skills programmes to prepare our youngsters for adulthood

Shane and Mohammed received their head teachers star achiever awards. Well done lads.

Students in KS3 this week have been creating items to sell at the Christmas fair. These have included Christmas decorations, soaps, bath bombs, cakes, as well as running games and food stalls. The fair was a great success and enjoyed by all students who took part. Well done for helping to raise £1030.

On Tuesday 15 December there will be a performing arts showcase involving students in the Secondary department. This will involve students performing pieces they have learned this term. Students who are in the performance have taken home invites but everybody is invited.

KS3

Can we say a massive thank you to all the parents and staff that have supported our Christmas Fair. It was a brilliant event and next year we hope to be even bigger and better.

It’s that time of year again. Christmas comes around so quickly. SEB have been really busy over the last week making their own advent calendar. Each day has a different smell and texture.

On Tuesday Simon from Commando Joes came in to do some team building activities with the students. They had to memorise a structure made from blocks and cones and then work as a team to replicate them.

KS5

The official opening of our new 6th Form Provision based at REEC in Middleton took place last week. The event was well attended and supported by the local authority, the NHS and local employers as well as dedicated staff and students. It was great to see so many people and the students did a fantastic job meeting and greeting visitors, serving refreshments and publically speaking about REEC. The students said that being at REEC was great, it was like their own college, they felt more independent and grown up. They also talked about their courses and the important life and vocational skills that they are developing as they prepare for adulthood.

5B have been making paper chains and decorations for the Christmas Fayre.

In Music we have been exploring different ways of playing percussion instruments. One method is to use a ball and roll it down a ramp or throw it We found that different sized drums make different sounds.

Student of the week
Regan for showing a mature attitude and coping with disappointment when faced with a difficult situation.

Most improved
Abbey for showing positive work ethics despite not feeling too well.
