St Anne’s ‘Employer Engagement and Careers Festival’
Date published: 03 December 2015
This week St Anne’s Church of England Academy in Middleton hosted their first ever ‘Employer Engagement and Careers Festival’.
The festival gave every student from year 7 to 13 an introduction to the world of work with local and national businesses exhibiting the kind of activities they undertake as well as information, advice and guidance about career pathways.
Exhibitors this year included TBA Textiles, Barclays Bank, Aldi, GM Police, Rochdale Football Club, The University of Manchester, National Careers Service, Phoenix Hair and Beauty, The Skills Company, ICare Ambassadors and Rainbow End Nursery.
These organisations offered an exciting range of hands-on experiences for the students.
These included CV support, media production, science experiments, a life size board game about university life, hair and beauty boutique and first hand advice about career progression and life in the working world.
Zowie Phillips, Yr 12 Director and IAG Co-ordinator said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our young people to discover more about career routes on offer and raise their aspirations.
"Students could learn directly from employers about the skills and qualifications they need to achieve their dreams.
"The event was a great success and raised the aspirations of our students who were pleased to try out the hands on activities. We would like to thank all our guests that supported us on the day and we are looking forward to hosting the event again in 2016.”
