Record breaking specials

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is welcoming a record number of special constables to the Force at an attestation ceremony tomorrow (Wednesday 2 December).
Fifty-eight people will be joining the ranks of the Special Constabulary, the largest number ever at a ceremony. They will join almost 800 other people who are part of GMP’s Special Constabulary.
GMP Special Constabulary Chief Officer Mike Walmsley said: “It's great to see so many citizens willing to volunteer to assist with making Greater Manchester a safer place. I am delighted that the ceremony will be overseen by the new Chief Constable Ian Hopkins.”
Among the 58 new specials are two people currently working as Operational Support Officers within GMP, a former GMP cadet and now cadet team leader and a postman who has transferred from Cheshire Police.

The next Special Constabulary information evening is on 10 December at Sedgley Park Training Centre in Prestwich.
