Man critically ill after his car collided with a tree

A man is critically ill in hospital after crashing his car into a tree on Heywood Old Road near Birch on Sunday morning.
The emergency services attended and police established that a silver Kia Rio had collided with a tree and the 50-year-old driver, who was trapped inside vehicle, sustained serious, possibly life-threatening, injuries.
Fire crews cut the man free and paramedics took him to North Manchester General Hospital.
Having undegone surgery, the man's condition is described as being critical.
Police are now asking anyone with information to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
