Historic battle re-enacted by students

Year 7 students from Whitworth Community High School re-enact the Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings was recreated by students from Whitworth Community High School as History lessons came to life.
For homework, the students had been asked to create swords, shields and axes and then the whole of Year 7 at different times went out onto the school field to have a battle.
Benjamin Badham, 11, said: “The battle was good fun and it was girls v boys. It made the history we are learning seem more real rather than just reading about it in a book.
“I made a shield and put triangles and circles on it in the shape of a raven’s face. I like history and especially dinosaurs.”
Elizabeth Bishop, 11, made an axe and shield out of cardboard and painted a lion and a unicorn on the shield along with her initials.
