Councillor Carol Wardle and Beverley Place hand over a cheque for £1,500 to Christine Downham-Clark of Heywood Foodbank
Heywood Foodbank has been given a donation of £1,500 from former Mayor of Rochdale Carol Wardle and former Mayoress Beverley Place.
The donation was made to the foodbank following Councillor Wardle’s year as Mayor, in which £51,000 was raised for local charities.
Councillor Wardle said: “The money will ensure that children whose parents rely on the foodbank each get a gift for Christmas. Any money left will ensure that lonely people in Heywood who go to the Christmas dinner put on by Father Daly will also receive a gift.”
Christine Downham-Clark, from Heywood Foodbank, said: “It is greatly appreciated and has been very well received.
“The money will go towards our Christmas hampers and will allow us to give gifts to the children of the families who rely on us.
"We have 50 families on our books with children ranging from babies to young teenagers, so we will now get them each a voucher of £20 for Smyths so then they can get something that they want with it.”
