An opportunity for young Littleborough residents

Date published: 22 November 2015

Young residents in Littleborough now have an opportunity to continue the tradition of Littleborough Civic Trust in guiding the development of the village.

Members of the Civic Trust have in the past completed many major initiatives. The Coach House Trust, The Country Park, Conservation Areas, Steanor Bottom Toll House, The Town Design Statement and many others. These would not have happened but for the hard work of the Civic Trust Members.

Those members are now so much older that they are worn out with these challenges. It is an opportunity for some of the younger residents to pick up the baton and to re-organise the Civic Trust so that it continues to safe guard standards in Littleborough but in a way which the younger residents find attractive.

John Kay says: “Some people talk about a lost generation. There are no young members of several long established organisations. Why? Is it that younger people don’t care? Is it that they are selfish and keep themselves to themselves? Are they not prepared to be involved in good causes?

“I don’t believe that to be the case. I think that younger people just don’t want to be trapped in the bureaucracy of what they see as out-of-date organisations which are beyond their sell buy date.

“Now they have a unique opportunity. The New Civic Trust can develop as they find acceptable. A new Committee can be adopted. Younger members can pursue initiatives which will make Littleborough an even better place to live in.

“They can do this in a modern way so that we become a centre of excellence for young ideas. Littleborough can be a magnet for an inspired future. Let’s build on the past in order to develop an exciting future.

“Anyone who wants to be involved should come to the Civic Trust Meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday 8 December 2015 at Littleborough Coach House. They can be a paid up voting member for only £5.00.”
