Residents discover one another’s faiths

Date published: 21 November 2015

Local residents met this week to talk about their communities, cultures and faiths so they could understand more about what each believed during National Interfaith Week.

At St Chad’s Church, local Christians and Muslims came to meet and discover different aspects of each other's faith. The Saint Chad's community joined with Golden Mosque and Islamic Cultural centre to take part in Rochdale’s first Faith Share.

The two groups talked about how their own faiths approached certain issues, and along the way made friends, discovered new aspects about faiths and reflected on their own faith.

One man said: “I have lived next to this church for 17 years, and never been inside. It’s great to feel welcomed into the space.”

Shanaz, who organised the event, said: “Rochdale is a wonderful town, and people are genuine and kind. The event helped the two faith communities see how much they have in common through faith and learned a lot from each other.

"A special thanks to the Christian community and Muslim community who attended and helped make this happen."
