Date published: 21 November 2015

Deeplish Community Centre Learners were given detailed session on fire safety by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

Aim of this event was to raise an awareness and promote safety and make people aware of the importance of safety measures. All participants’ learnt about the importance of fire safety, causes, risk assessments and protective measures in case of a fire.

Staff from GM Fire & Rescue Services said: “It was good to see people showing interest and learning about fire safety in their own homes, as this is a major issue for us.

"As community safety advisors, our prevention team works with the more vulnerable people in our community.

"People from different ethnic backgrounds can sometimes be harder to reach, so having this opportunity to work more closely with them was fantastic, and I’m sure there will be many more in the future.

"When delivering the session, we felt very welcome and comfortable as each and every one of the learners were very eager to learn.

"We would like to thank staff and learners at Deeplish for helping to make this a success.”

Tutor, Jameela Waheed said: “I am pleased that our learners are not only improving English but learning about practical issues affecting their safety and developing understanding of fire safety in general. She said, “All of our learners were very keen to participate and enjoyed the session”.

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, commented: “It’s good to see new learners engaging in learning about new ideas and developing their knowledge and skills, which will empower them to become fully integrated in our communities.

"It was good to see members of team from GM Fire & Rescue Services delivering this course and presentation in a very professional way.

"All learners were very keen and have taken greater interest in this session."
