Vicious assault leaves man with serious facial injuries

Date published: 20 November 2015

A vicious assault left a 25-year-old man with a broken jaw in Rochdale.

The attack took place between 2am and 3am on Sunday 1 November 2015, when the victim had attended the Darli Bar and Nightclub in Rochdale Town Centre.

The man was standing by a games machine when he was approached by two men, who launched into an unprovoked attack, punching him simultaneously to both sides of his face.

The victim fell to the ground and was escorted, along with the offenders, outside the bar by the doormen.

He went to the hospital, where he remained for five days while they completed surgery to fix the injuries he had sustained to his jaw.

The first offender is described as white, around 6ft 3in tall, between 20 and 30 years old, of muscular build with blonde hair, blue eyes and a goatee beard.

The second offender is described as white, in his late 20s, around 6ft 1in tall, with ginger hair and green eyes. He was wearing a white donkey mask.

Detective Constable Russ Clarke said: “This was a cowardly attack which left the victim with serious facial injuries.

“Anybody with information regarding this assault, especially if you watched events unfold, should call police.

“If you know who these people are, please come forward so we can prevent more innocent people becoming victims of their brutality.

"There are those in society who, after drinking alcohol, turn to violence.

“It is crucial that we identify these people and ensure that they cannot conduct further attacks on others, people who are doing nothing more than socialising at the weekend.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 091115/1187, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
