Deeplish Community Centre promoting recycling

Date published: 17 November 2015

Deeplish Community Centre joined forces with the Council's recycling team, local residents and local councillors to raise awareness of the recycling changes around the Borough and particularly within Milkstone and Deeplish.

An Open Day and Road Show was held at Deeplish Community Centre to inform people of the changes in recycling and their impact on waste management.

Council recycling team officers, Ian Rogers and Mohammed Shahid explained procedures for the new weekly food waste collection.

Councillor Zaman and Councillor Zahir explained the importance of recycling and the aim to increase the percentage of recycling through new system.

It was also explained that if people put the wrong stuff in the wrong bin, then this bin will not be collected and if people keep using the wrong bin, they could be fined.

Councillor Zaman commented: "We are pleased that our street champions took this initiative on board and are committed to promote and support recycling in this ward and neighbourhoods through Deeplish Community Centre."

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said: "We are starting this initiative jointly with local residents and community leaders to ensure maximum recycling and ensuring our ward is cleaner and greener. We are pleased to work with RMBC recycling team to support and promote this campaign.

"We will be holding series of events and open days to promote this campaign further. This is the start of this project and we hope to reach out to many residents and households in this ward."
