Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk has stressed the need for “tolerance and peace” in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris.
In a letter to Gerald Darmanin, the mayor of Rochdale’s French twin town Tourcoing, Mr Danczuk praised the “courage and strength” of the French people following the deaths of 129 people in a series of coordinated attacks on the nation’s capital.
The letter reads: “Those that sought to spread division and hatred through their violent acts have succeeded only in reminding of us our shared values of freedom, tolerance and peace.
“Be assured that the people of Rochdale stand together with you at this difficult time.”
Mr Danczuk was joined by local councillors and constituents as he observed the minute's silence for Friday’s victims while visiting businesses in Rochdale.
He said: “Like everyone, I was shocked and saddened by the horrifying attacks in Paris on Friday night.
“We share a significant and valuable bond with our French twin town and it is important to let the people of Tourcoing know that we stand with them.”
