Volunteers required at Butterworth Hall Community Centre

Date published: 16 November 2015

Butterworth Hall Community Centre is looking for volunteers who can help make a very real, immediate and valuable contribution to local life.

The centre was taken into community ownership over 11 years ago and has flourished as the hub of local activity groups ever since; from amateur dramatics, to Golden Girls, to Zumba, to Alzheimer memory clinics, Brownies, Literary and Scientific Society and more.

At their recent AGM, the Chairwoman, Irene Davidson, said farewell to some long standing management committee members who are leaving the area and is putting out an urgent plea for replacements.

The reality is that without replacement members on the management team it will not be possible to fulfil the obligations to the Charities Commission and the local control by the MoorEnd Trust and the centre will have to close.

The most urgent vacancy is for a treasurer; the duties are modest, requiring about six hours a month to look after invoicing for the room hires, paying invoices and keeping the books.

A vice-chairperson is also sought along with regular committee members that play a vital role in authorising and regulating the management of this local asset; this requires only one hour every six weeks to attend the committee meetings.

If you feel you can contribute, or know someone who can, contact Irene Davidson on 07889 763 078 or go along to the next meeting at Butterworth Hall, opposite the Back Wagon pub on New Street, Milnrow on Wednesday 9 December at 7.00pm.
