Borough gears up for National Carers’ Rights Day

Date published: 14 November 2015

An information and activities day to celebrate the efforts of carers across Rochdale will take place next week as the borough gears up for National Carers’ Rights Day.

The free event, at The Carers’ Resource on Friday 20 November, is aimed at encouraging anyone who looks after someone to come and take some time out, meet other people and get useful information on a range of issues.

People can pop in for refreshments, massages and health checks, as well as advice on a range of issues, including:

  • Benefits
  • Legal issues
  • Disability badges
  • Assistive technology
  • Personal budgets for carers
  • Crime prevention tips

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Adult Care art Rochdale Borough Council, said: “There are an estimated 23,000 carers in Rochdale borough, but only 3,000 are registered at the council-run Carers’ Resource, which offers free support and activities.

“Events like this are not only our way of celebrating the huge contribution that our carers make, but also a means of encouraging the many hidden carers who are not currently accessing support to come to the resource and find out how we can help. “
