Adam is ‘Living Well’ on his apprenticeship

Date published: 14 November 2015

Adam McCarthy, 28, from Heywood, was at a crossroads in his life when he decided to pop into Hopwood Hall College for advice. Ten months later, Adam has already been promoted by his new employer Living Well Rochdale.

Adam explains: “I was in a job that didn’t leave me fulfilled and job searching led me down the same path. I started to explore apprenticeships, as they gave me a chance to learn something new, develop a career and earn at the same time.

“I was unsure what apprenticeship I wanted to do, as I’ve never really had a direction, but the Hopwood Hall apprenticeship adviser was helpful and recommended that I applied for a Business Administration role, based on my previous experience.”

Adam started his Business Administration apprenticeship at Living Well Rochdale, a community health and wellbeing service, in January this year.

By working hard and showing a real interest in the organisation and his role, he was soon offered a different position with higher salary and valuable extra training to add to his CV.

Adam says his time so far at Living Well “has been a truly enjoyable experience".

He added: "I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge and even learnt a lot about myself, as well as building new relationships with brilliant people.

“My college tutor, Adelle Hartwell, is always helpful and has tremendous knowledge that she has shared while guiding me through my apprenticeship.

“You never know where you’re going until you take the first step. Taking a chance and joining the Hopwood Hall apprenticeship scheme has changed my life in more ways than I could imagine.”
