Students have their artwork displayed in public gallery

Hopwood Hall College Fine Art students have had their work displayed at the Touchstones Gallery in Rochdale. Their work forms part of an exhibition about the re-opening of the River Roch in Rochdale.

Back in 2014, the College’s art department met with the Council to discuss a range of activities to run alongside the development of the river re-opening project. Students were asked to produce paintings to be used as designs for hoardings to surround the building site. So, taking the theme of the river, they began to look for images that related to the River Roch; they then interpreted those images to come up with their final pieces.

The paintings have been on display over the summer in the Touchstones Gallery within the project’s visitor centre.

Last week, they attended a VIP evening, along with their tutors Jane Bennett and Nicola Karwat, to celebrate the exhibition of their work. The five students, who are in the second year of their Extended National Diploma in Fine Art, were delighted to be pictured with the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Surinder Biant.
