Birch Community Base gets a royal makeover

Birch Community Base in Wardle will soon be providing a range of events and activities for local residents thanks to volunteers from the Prince’s Trust.

The young people have been busy painting some of the rooms and carrying out a big tidy up to give the building a more welcoming look.

Future plans for the base include helping to improve employment skills with a job club and courses in IT, first aid and food hygiene.

There will also be fun days and events to celebrate Christmas and Eid while RBH will be working with partners to provide services such as drug awareness sessions.

In addition one of the rooms now features a graffiti wall with local youngsters being encouraged to add to the artwork.

Sohail Hussain, RBH Community Partnership Worker, said:

“The Prince’s Trust volunteers have done a great job and made the base much more appealing. We are now looking forward to working with residents to provide more services for the community.”

The Prince’s Trust supports young people in tackling issues such as unemployment by giving them the chance to learn new skills and gain valuable experience.

The project at Birch Community Base was run by Groundwork BBOR (Groundwork in Bury, Bolton, Oldham and Rochdale).

Team Leader Debra Madden said: "Team R128 worked really hard to complete the Community Project at Birch View. I was amazed by the dedication they showed. The team exceeded their own expectations and painted four rooms creating a brighter space for the local community."
