Responsible Retailers seminar to be held

Date published: 13 November 2015

Traders from across Rochdale borough will be given training and advice on how to be a responsible retailer at an annual seminar on Wednesday 18 November.

More than 140 businesses have signed up to the Responsible Retailers scheme run by Rochdale Borough council's public protection service. Members of the scheme agree to operate a Challenge25 policy on all age-restricted products including tobacco, alcohol, fireworks, computer games and petrol. They must also ensure to record any sales or attempted purchases where identification was requested.

The seminar gives retailers the chance to see that they are supported when it comes to age restricted sales, while receiving important advice and training.

The event will consist of numerous presentations and workshops on topics such as the introduction of plain packaging next year, illicit tobacco, legal highs and retail violence.

Members will also have the opportunity to sign up for a training package that they can roll out to their employees.

Councillor Janet Emsley, Rochdale Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Health and Wellbeing, said: "The Responsible Retailers Scheme is working really hard with our members to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and poor health in certain areas of the borough. We have already done some great work and we are looking forward to sharing those successes with our members at the seminar. We really hope that the scheme will continue and go from strength to strength, new members are always welcome."

Retailers interested in joining the scheme and attending the seminar should contact 0300 303 8871.
