Over £1,000 in charity cash stolen from The Angel Project Community Café

Date published: 13 November 2015

The Angel Project Community Café in Langley, Middleton has been broken into with the offender(s) making off with at least £1,000 in charity cash.

Emma Scott, from the Angel Project, said: “It isn’t even our money that they have stolen. We were raising money for the Lee Rigby charity by selling wristbands and they have taken that.

"We were also getting money together so that people could go on a trip to Gulliver’s World and that has been taken. That trip now won’t be able to go ahead. What has been stolen was stuff for other people and that is what makes it worse.”

The incident is believed to have happened sometime between 4.30pm on Thursday 12 November and 8am on today (Friday 13 November).

Emma added: “It is just so disheartening when you work hard to do something like this for the local community and this is how you are repaid. It has hit Langley hard and people are really annoyed about it.”

The offender(s) broke into the premises on Lakeland Court using a crowbar. Once inside the property they have ransacked it before making off with at least £1,000 in cash, charity wristbands and chocolate.

Due to the damage that has been caused from the incident, the café is currently closed.

“We have had to close so we can get everything sorted,” said Emma. “We are volunteer based and are a voluntary organisation so we have volunteers in at the minute trying to get everything together but we can’t rely or money or anything to get this fixed.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that they were called to the incident at 8.50am this morning (Friday 13 November).

Emma added: “We just want them caught and I can promise you this now, we will come back with a bang that is for sure.”
