Rochdale Town Centre stood still this morning (Wednesday 11 November) as school children, shoppers, passers-by, college students, police officers and veterans observed a two minute silence to mark Armistice Day.
The Mayor of Rochdale, Surinder Biant and Mayoress Cecile Biant were joined by local councillors and Rochdale Council CEO Steve Rumbelow, as well as many more, at the cenotaph.
A short service was led by Reverend Cannon Shackleton, followed by the reading of prayers and the singing of the national anthem.
Following the service at 11am, wooden crosses with poppies on them were liad in the grass surrounding the cenotaph.
