Liz McInnes supports patients over planned closure of GP centre

Date published: 06 November 2015

Liz McInnes, Labour Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton, has pledged her support to patients and residents who are worried about the possible closure of the Birtle View Medical Practice on George Street, Heywood.

Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is considering closing the site as part of a review of NHS services in the area.

Ms McInnes has already given her support to campaigners fighting to save Middleton Heath Centre Walk-In, which is also under threat of closure.

Ms McInnes said: "Birtle View Medical Practice only opened in 2009 and has fantastic facilities. I have been contacted by many residents and patients of the surgery who are not just worried about it closing, but are understandably angry that a brand-new, modern health practice could be closed after only six years. With the NHS under increasing financial pressure, closing it would look like a huge waste of money.

"I have pledged my support to patients and staff fighting to keep Middleton Walk-in Centre open, and I also fully support people trying to make the case for Birtle View to remain part of our community.

"I am seeking a meeting with the CCG so that I can hear their arguments and so I can make the case loudly and clearly for keeping the practice open."
