RBH gardeners get their rewards

Date published: 02 November 2015

Residents who light up their neighbourhoods with a blaze of colour have been honoured at the 2015 RBH Garden Competition Awards.

There were a range of categories to reflect the different locations, sizes and styles of gardens within RBH communities and, once again, the standard of entries was extremely high.

Among those to be honoured were the residents of Thistleyfield independent living scheme in Milnrow who won the Pennines Communal Garden category.

A cup and certificate were presented to residents Kitty Hall and Brian Mulligan who have both played key roles in the creation of the scheme’s beautiful garden.

Kitty said: “It was a pleasant surprise that we won the cup. It’s a great boost for all the tenants and a good feeling to be acknowledged.

“It brightens our days to know we are giving pleasure to all the tenants and everyone can enjoy the garden and grounds together.”

The garden has been an ongoing project for five years with tenants receiving practical help from Scheme Assistant June Jones and RBH volunteers and funding from generous donations and a number of grants.

RBH Transformation Co-ordinator Ruth Camm, who organised the garden awards, said:
“The judges have been extremely impressed by the standard of entries to the competition which reflects the time and dedication which so many residents put into their gardens.

“Their efforts really light up neighbourhoods and their gardens provide much pleasure to everyone who lives nearby.”
