Rochdale, Heywood & Middleton Momentum

Date published: 30 October 2015

The inaugural meeting of Rochdale, Heywood & Middleton Momentum was held at the Baum in Rochdale on Thursday.

The group, brought together in the wake of Jeremy Corbyn's landslide Labour leadership victory, aims to "continue the energy and enthusiasm of Mr Corbyn's campaign and bring together individuals and groups to campaign and organise on issues".

A spokesperson for the group said: "We seek to reach out across communities and encourage the participation of people who may not have been involved in political activity before.

"Whilst being a predominantly Labour based group with the aim of making Labour a more democractic party Momentum is open to any individual our group who share our and Jeremy's aims and values.

"At Thursday's relaxed and friendly meeting, many topics were discussed, such as campaigns on tax credits and voter registration, increasing involvement of young people in politics, organising within the Labour Party and Rochdale's controversial 'Labour' MP, Simon Danczuk.

"Rochdale Heywood & Middleton Momentum is already looking to organise our next get together in the coming weeks and looks forward to meeting and talking to anyone who is interested in getting involved in our growing and exiting group."
