Sam Wilde and Littleborough Co-Op staff raise money for Fallen Fusiliers

Date published: 29 October 2015

Corporal Sam Wilde and staff from the Co-Op shop in Littleborough have worked together to raise money for Fallen Fusiliers.

Sam, who is part of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, is on a mission to raise money for his chosen charity and has been helped by the Co-Op.

Angie Coop from the Co-Op said: “I know Sam’s wife and she was putting some stuff online about his fundraising and I got in touch with her about helping out.”

From a Supermarket Sweep event and a book sale, the shop raised £120.

Angie added: “We are really pleased with what we raised.”

Sam started fund raising at the Rochdale Half Marathon event and is hoping to raise money throughout the next year.

He said: “We have been doing running events and weighted running events to raise the money. It all started at the Rochdale Half Marathon and then we did the Littleborough 10k.”
Helped along the way by WO2 Jim Kenworthy from the Fusiliers, Sam has already raised £356.

He added: “At the moment we have raised £356 and we are planning to fund raise until next summer, so if we could reach £1,000 then that would be great.

“A lot of what we are doing is fitness based events where people can see what we are doing and see our uniform. It is also about getting the name of our regiment out there as well.”

Fallen Fusiliers is the face of the registered charity Fusilier Aid Society. The charity raises funds through donations, collections, special events and the sale of merchandise with money raised going directly to the past and present serving soldiers and their families.
