James Buttler releases second book

Date published: 29 October 2015

Rochdale resident James Buttler has released his second book.

The book, which is entitled ‘Killer Instinct,’ chronicles the rise and fall of some of the world’s leading sporting stars.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, James said: “There are 29 people in the book, all from different backgrounds and different sports, who have gone to jail for killing someone. Researching the subject was very interesting.”

James has worked as a sports journalist and a broadcaster since 2006. After spending over a decade working in local government, he went back to school and received a BA Honours degree in Creative Writing from the University of Leeds in 2007. Whilst studying for his degree, he had already embarked on a career as a cricket journalist.

He added: “I have always had an interest in crime and true crime and what makes people do things. Following the Oscar Pistorius case that I took an interest in, I started to look into his story a bit more and thought that there must be other sports people out there with similar stories.”
This is the second book to be released by James.

In 2012 he released a book entitled “Yorkshire CCC on This Day,” which revisited the most magical and memorable moments from the country’s distinguished cricketing past.

Killer Instinct was released in September 2015.

“So far it has gone really well. It was released in September and it seems to be going well. It has had some really good reviews that I’m pleased about,” said James.

James is now working on his next book, which he hopes will be released in summer 2016.

He added: “I’m already working on the second one and am in the early stages. It is about cricket stars who have a famous dad and is about how they can and if they can create their own identity on the field. I am currently doing the interviews and have sat down with some cricketers and their sons, so it is still very early days.

“I am hoping for a summer release next year, in line with the cricket season, but we’ll have to see.”
