Painting and decorating students decorate Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home
Painting and decorating students from Hopwood Hall College have designed a new activity room at a children’s home.
The students have been gaining valuable work experience by working in Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home on a project to reinvigorate their play room.
They were tasked with creating a bright and vibrant activity area for the children. So, over a period of a couple weeks, they have been lending their expertise to transform the spacious room with a brand new colour scheme and funky designs. They began with preparatory work to adequately replace and cover up the old décor before they started their very own designs.
The students chose designs that they hoped would resonate with the young residents of the home, including graffiti inspired images, such as this Banksy-esque image of a young girl.
Their tutor Richard Hartley explains: “The students have been applying what they have learnt from classes in the newly opened Technology Centre Annex to a real-life working environment.”
“This experience will help them when they look for work, as they will know what to expect when on a real job.”
“We’re always willing to discuss opportunities that could benefit our students by giving them practical and real experience relating to their fields of study.”
