Date published: 16 October 2015

The Right Honourable Keith Vaz MP was the guest speaker at a dinner at Rochdale Town Hall, held to raise funds for the Mayor's charity, tonight (Friday 16 October).

Hosted by the Member of Parliament for Rochdale, Simon Danczuk, guests enjoyed a three course dinner after which Mr Vaz, Chairman of the Parliamentary Home Affairs Select Committee, spoke of the community cohesion in Rochdale and cited the borough as a "shining example" to the rest of the UK.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, Mr Vaz said: "It is a huge pleasure to be here in Rochdale's great and most beautiful Town Hall.

"Thank you to Simon for inviting me this evening. During his time at Westminster Simon speaks up for Rochdale... the people of Rochdale should be proud to have him as their MP.

"Many thanks to everyone involved, it's been a really enjoyable evening here in Rochdale."

Mayor Surinder Biant thanked Mr Vaz saying: "A big well done to our speaker Keith Vaz, whose message was close to everyone's hearts.

"I have been overwhelmed by the dinner, it has been such a wonderful night and therefore I must say a big thank you to everyone who attended for all their support."

Simon Danczuk was delighted with the evening, he said: "It has been an excellent night and Keith has been absolutely fantastic.

"We have raised lots of money, which is really important, so thank you to everyone who has contributed.

"Now in our fourth year the event has gone from strength-to-strength, and long may it continue."

The dinner was organised by Rochdale Online director John Kay, vice-chairman of the Mayor's charity committee.

The Dinner raised £2,125.00 for the Mayor's Charity.
