Opticians’ fundraising weekend adds £300 to four-year-old Rochdale boy’s cancer charity campaign

Date published: 16 October 2015

An opticians’ Disney-themed community fundraiser has added £300 to an inspirational children’s cancer charity campaign, led by brave four-year-old, Lucas Devaney.

Lucas, who is originally from Rochdale, was diagnosed with leukaemia a few months ago. While undergoing his own treatment, the selfless school pupil has launched a campaign to raise money for Addenbroke’s Charitable Trust, Children With Cancer UK and the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group.

As soon as they heard of Lucas’s story, the team at Specsavers in Curzon Street, Oldham were determined to back the campaign and organised a three-day Disney-themed weekend for customers.

The store was decked out with an array of colourful Mickey Mouse decorations while visitors, young and old, enjoyed fun-filled activities including face painting, a raffle and a balloon modeller.

Event organiser and Specsavers Oldham team member Sarah Robinson said: ‘Lucas’ story and his determination to fundraise for others has really touched the hearts of everyone in store so we were determined to raise as much as possible.

‘We would like to say a huge thank you to all our customers who joined us over the weekend and helped us raise a fantastic £300 so far. It was wonderful to see so many people supporting this cause for Lucas.’
