Jessica Hynes visits Hollingworth Academy

Date published: 14 October 2015

Hollingworth Academy’s Performing Arts Department were the lucky recipients of a visit from Bafta award winning TV and film actress Jessica Hynes on Tuesday 13 October.

Jessica enjoyed a morning, meeting with pupils and staff and working with them before a question and answer session about the life of a performing artist.

Rebecca Dring, Hollingworth Academy’s Performing Arts Department said: “A great time was had by all, the pupils and staff of the Academy were buzzing with excitement and Jessica was impressed by the energy and creativity of the young people.

“The Academy is incredibly grateful to Jessica for the donation of her time. It certainly was a memorable experience for all and Hollingworth is proud of its thriving performing arts department and is certainly bucking the national trend.”

In response to cuts to arts services nationally, Jessica had dedicated 20 days of her time to 20 schools across the country and a quick reaction from Rebecca Dring from the department secured one of the days.

Jessica Hynes is visiting schools in order to encourage equality in arts participation and to celebrate and promote the work of young people and teachers in the Performing Arts in particular, at a time when the subjects of dance, drama and music are being side-lined by many schools around the country.

Jessica Hynes has appeared in Spaced, The Royle Family, W1A, Sean of the Dead, Nativity 2 among many other credits.
