Road to Rio
A group of Key Stage 3 students and some from a local primary school took part in a series of PE challenges which is being filmed as part of a Youth Sports Trust film documentary on the Paralympics `Road to Rio` planning. We all await to see the final version of the filming.

Internship Work Placements
As parents and carers will be aware our focus at Redwood is how we prepare our youngsters for adulthood in all aspects: educationally, socially, emotionally and preparing for the real world.

This starts as soon our youngsters enter into school in Year 7 and continues throughout their career into Post 16 programmes. So it is with immense pride that we receive feedback from an employer on the success of a Post 16 Internee student.

This is the case this week with regards to Kyle C whose employer took the time to contact the Internship Programme Co-ordinator to highlight the excellent work Kyle is doing on placement. Well done to all concerned and particular well done to Kyle.

Student Council
The first meeting of the newly elected Student Council took place this week and it was an excellent start by all the members, enthusiastic and positive about representing their classes. One of the first duties was for KS4 members to be involved in the interview process for the ICT Technician post. Their questions to all three candidates were excellent.

Phones for Food

Details have been sent home of how we are supporting the `Good Morning Britain` launch of its ` Phones for Food `campaign. Should you be in a position to support this by donating any unwanted phones in reception at school between the period 5 – 30 October.

October half term holiday clubs
The October half term holiday club will run from Monday 26 – Thursday 29 October and places can be booked by following the link on the school website.

KS3

Key Stage 5 led wheel chair dancing for the whole school. Shane and Jet from Key stage 3 helped them push the wheel chairs and take part in the fun.

Dylan has been chosen as one of the Key stage 3 school council members. He has met this week with other members of the council and Mr Pidgeon to discuss school issues.

9 students took part in a morning of inclusive sports challenges which were filmed by the Youth Sports Trust as part of an exciting new resource that will be available to schools throughout the UK leading up to the Rio Olympics and Paralympics.

The challenges focussed on the Paralympic sports of Seated Volleyball and Visually Impaired Athletics.

Redwood were joined by a group of 9 Year 6 students from St. James’ Primary and all the young people worked fantastically with each other.

This term in Science 8/9 Blue, Purple and Green have been looking at rocks. As part of this topic they have carried out an investigation looking at the types of rock found in the school.

They went around the school spotting the types of rocks and recording where they found them and how the rocks have been used. They have also been using a rock investigating machine to find out about individual rocks.

KS4
4C students attempted to show specific expressions as part of a PSD lesson.

SEB enjoyed a song/poem about autumn leaves. Students had a full sensory experience by touching the leaves, crunching them on the floor and having them fall onto their heads and laps.

Cook and Eat made cannelloni, they made the pancakes from scratch. Chelsea and Hamza were able to toss the pancakes by themselves. We also made chocolate cake (Isaac's favourite). It was gorgeous.

KS5
In Art we have been designing Chinese Opera masks. The students have been watching a Chinese opera performance, listening to the music and watching the dancing. Every student worked really well, designing their own mask. They are looking forward to making their own mask soon.

Music groups 3 and 4 have been exploring different tuned instruments, such as the ukulele and the bells, whilst groups 1 and 2 have been playing the steel pan drums.

Our table cricket team made a great start to their campaign and will be returning to Manchester Old Trafford LCC Club over the next few weeks.

Student of the Week
Raymond:  For doing really well managing his behaviour and being helpful and looking after our new student, Shanza, at social times.

Most Improved
Mitchell: For being more independent and making fantastic progress in following his personal hygiene routine.
