Chance for community groups to bid for share of £10,000 cash pot

Community groups are being offered a second chance to bid for a share of a £10,000 cash fund set up to help residents make their areas better places to live.

Dozens of organisations applied for funding in the first round of Contour Homes’ ‘Cash for Communities’ initiative in the summer – and three projects were successful.

Now the housing association has begun round two of the scheme, which was first devised by staff in 2014 to mark Contour’s 10th anniversary year.

‘Cash for Communities’ will see a total of £10,000 given away to community projects in Contour neighbourhoods up to the end of March 2016.

Sums of between £500 and £2,000 will be awarded to groups whose activities support one or more of four themes:

• Job, training and enterprise opportunities
• Community spaces, health initiatives or community sports projects
• Activities for young people
• Helping people to get online and/or make their money go further

Contour Homes community engagement, investment and well-being manager Pete Coventry said: “We are delighted to have already pledged more than £4,000 to three fantastic projects and are looking forward to receiving lots more bids in the second round.

“We know there are still lots of groups out there doing amazing work, and I’d really urge them to submit an application for funding.”

The deadline for round two applications is 9 November.
